What is a Patent Attorney?
Patent Attorneys are first technically schooled (with at least the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science degree) and second schooled in law and admitted to practice law in at least one state (or District of Columbia).
Patent Attorneys are registered with the United States government through the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office. Patent law is one of only two specialties in law, the other being Maritime (or Admiralty) law. Every Patent Attorney has a registration number and is governed by both the rules of ethics of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office and of a state bar.
