What is a Patent Agent?

Patent Agents are technically schooled (with at least the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science degree) and are registered to prosecute patent applications before the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.  Because they are not lawyers, Patent Agents cannot practice law.

Every Patent Agent has a registration number and is governed by the rules of ethics of the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office
